Position: Civil Estimator Department: Construction Our client is an innovative airports focused consultant undertaking civil engineering and construction projects throughout Australia and across the globe. We also undertake planning for airport operations, Air Traffic Management (ATM), infrastructure, and airspace. We delivers industry leading airport and ATM development advice which is internationally tested and locally relevant. Our team of engineers, planners, and advisors and highly skilled and work almost exclusively in airport and aviation settings. Purpose of role The Civil Estimator shall assist Senior Estimator in the preparation of tenders, budget estimates, and pre-qualifications for major and medium engineering and aviation projects. Characteristics, Duties And Responsibilities Responsibilities include a variety of tasks involving locality research for potential suppliers and subcontractors, preparation of briefs and pricing requests, quantity measurements both project wide and at individual stage levels. This role is considered an integral part of the Company and, as such the employee will be expected to work with and coordinate with company directors, other estimators and engineers
- Shall engage in a company provided education and up-skilling program as deemed necessary by the Senior Estimator and Company Directors
- Shall be allocated responsibilities and tasks associated with assisting the Senior estimator to support the Company Strategic and Business Plan.
- Requires a person with a strong performance ethic with a long term goal, who is focussed on achieving results through, and with, other team members and subordinates.
- Required to attend regular Tender Review meetings with the Senior Estimator and as such the ability to drive is an inherent requirement for this role.
- Will be assigned tasks related to the Company Estimating responsibilities as directed by the Senior Estimator, or the Company Directors.
Tasks may be carried out in a manner such as :-
- Observing, taking notes and imitating the work methods of the Senior Estimator or Company Director
- Working under the supervision of the Senior Estimator and receiving instructions and reasoning for the work methods in question.
- Working individually on estimating or estimating support tasks to be later reviewed by the Senior Estimator or Company Directors.
- Is required to assist the Senior Estimator in any of the below tasks which form the major responsibilities of the Estimating Department:
The Estimating Department Has Authority To Co-ordinate And Exercise Functional Authority For All Aspects Of Contract Procurement, Estimating And Supplier & Subcontractor Pricing Including
- Reviewing publications, newspapers, online notifications, and reports for potential projects to tender.
- Preparation of Contract Document summary reports
- Planning and programming project tenders
- Organising Consultants OR Consultation with Engineering for Design and Construct Contracts and reviewing different concepts and approaches.
- Preparation of First Principle Estimates by a variety of methods including Computer Based Estimation Packages.
- Review estimates for project tenders, budgets and estimates for review by the Company Directors and Senior Estimator.
- Finalisation and submission of tenders, budgets and estimates.
- The submission of Expressions of Interest Registrations, and Pre-qualification applications.
- Obtaining competitive pricing from suppliers and subcontractors including the preparation of contract documentation for projects.
- Provide summary information from submitted tenders for the Company Directors to prepare management reports in respect of success ratios, value works tendered and more.
- Preparation of Job Plans and conducting handover meetings with the Construction Team.
- Assist in the resolution of problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- The development of new ideas and methods for the computerised estimating system.
- Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies, which may improve operations, and develop recommendations accordingly.
- Visit projects that were won to obtain feedback from site personnel on productions and methodologies.
- Attend post-mortem on completed projects with the Project Manager and Project Engineer.
- Assist the Project Manager and Project Engineer in the pricing of major variations.

Qualifications . Skill Sand Experience To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Education And, Or Experience
- Minimum Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Construction Management or a recognised equivalent that meets Australian Qualifications Framework Level Vll requirements and allows membership to the Institution of Engineers Australia.
- Alternatively, a minimum of One year experience and/or training: or equivalent combination of education and experience to be competent at this level.
- Requirement to hold and maintain an Australian Open Drivers License unincumbered at all times.
Computer Skills A prerequisite for this position is to have adequate keyboard skills. Ability to competently use the following software packages:
- Pronamics Expert Estimation Genesis Edition 2024
- Word processing .(Microsoft Word)
- Spreadsheets (Microsoft Excel)
- Programming (Microsoft Project)
- Contact Databases Email and Time Management (Microsoft Outlook)
Language Skills A high level of communication and language skills in English is required for this position as follows:
- Ability to orally present reports, information and responses.
- Ability to write reports, correspondence and procedures.
- Ability to communicate on an oral and a written basis at a high level
Mathematical Skills
- Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity,
- Analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
