About NetApp NetApp is the intelligent data infrastructure company, turning a world of disruption into opportunity for every customer. No matter the data type, workload or environment, we help our customers identify and realize new business possibilities. And it all starts with our people. If this sounds like something you want to be part of, NetApp is the place for you. You can help bring new ideas to life, approaching each challenge with fresh eyes. We embrace diversity and openness because it's in our DNA. Of course, you won't be doing it alone. At NetApp, we're all about asking for help when we need it, collaborating with others, and partnering across the organization - and beyond. "At NetApp, we fully embrace and advance a diverse, inclusive global workforce with a culture of belonging that leverages the backgrounds and perspectives of all employees, customers, partners, and communities to foster a higher performing organization."-George Kurian, CEO Job Summary Are you passionate about open-source technologies or solving distributed computing problems at scale? Do you love learning and working with a diverse range of technologies and people? We’re looking for a collaborative and curious Software Engineer to join our development team at NetApp Instaclustr (www.instaclustr.com). As part of the NetApp CloudOps division, our mission at NetApp Instaclustr (www.instaclustr.com) is to make it easy for customers around the globe to run powerful open-source applications at scale - like Cassandra, Kafka, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch, Cadence, Valkey and ClickHouse, across both on-prem data-centres and in the cloud. The Netapp Instaclustr development team is responsible for building, maintaining and operating the platform that allows us to provision and reliably keep thousands of distributed application servers running worldwide. Join us at NetApp Instaclustr, and help power our customers’ success with the best open-source software solutions around. If you’re excited about learning, collaborating, and making a real impact, we invite you to apply and grow with us! What you'll do

  • Work within a development team of 3-8 engineers, to build, maintain, and enhance our open-source application platform, which takes care of the whole lifecycle: provisioning infrastructure, installing applications and, most importantly, keeping the applications running reliably in production.
  • Take end-to-end ownership of the whole development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing and deployment through to our production environments.
  • Collaborate with other development teams, operations teams and product managers to solve complex problems.
  • Learn and apply DevOps best practices as part of a global team that operates 24x7.

Your Skills And Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science or related field is required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of commercial experience regularly delivering quality software and overcoming technical challenges.
  • Proficiency in Java, SQL and at least one other modern programming language - and openness to learning more.
  • Strong communication skills and a humble and collaborative nature - essential for working harmoniously with multiple teams.
  • A curious mindset with a keen interest in how your work will positively impact customers.
  • Eagerness to tackle new challenges and continuously grow your software engineering skills.

What Makes This Role Exciting

  • Regular team rotations to explore different technologies and aspects of our systems, ensuring you never stop learning.
  • Working with a wide range of technologies and tools, such as: Java, SQL, Python, Typescript, Rust, Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins, Debian, and more.
  • Working with major cloud providers. Our systems run on AWS, Azure and GCP.
  • A modern development environment running on the latest MacBook Pros
  • Well defined career model and opportunities for progression
  • Workplace flexibility and great work-life balance
  • A fantastic team environment
  • Opportunities to learn from incredibly talented people
  • Generous other benefits, including:
  • Fully paid private health care with Medibank
  • Additional wellness days  off
  • Phone usage reimbursement
  • Gym Membership Subsidy
  • 5 volunteer days per year to give back to the community
  • Donate employer funds to a charity of your choice
  • 12 weeks parental leave for primary carers

Practical Details

  • Must have the right to work in Australia.
  • Must be able to work from our Canberra or Melbourne office at least two days a week.

We look forward to hearing from you. Why NetApp? We are all about helping customers turn challenges into business opportunity. It starts with bringing new thinking to age-old problems, like how to use data most effectively to run better - but also to innovate. We tailor our approach to the customer's unique needs with a combination of fresh thinking and proven approaches. We enable a healthy work-life balance. Our volunteer time off program is best in class, offering employees 40 hours of paid time off each year to volunteer with their favourite organizations.
