- Provide advice on economic regulation and other energy regulatory matters, as well as involvement in enforcement investigations and litigation as subject matter experts, administrative law issues, and statutory interpretation of a wide range of laws
- Provide advice on legal policy and legislation development, including identifying and monitoring opportunities for amendments to the energy laws
- Assist with the conduct of litigation, including managing court and tribunal proceedings involving the AER, and provide assistance to the AER in the performance of its dispute resolution functions
- Provide advice on public sector issues that arise under relevant legislation and policies (including the PGPA, FOI, Public Service and Privacy Acts, the Fair Work Act and WHS legislation and the handling of confidential information) – in undertaking this work, lawyers work closely with the Corporate Law Unit of the ACCC.
About You In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
- been admitted as a practitioner, however described, of the High Court or the Supreme Court of an Australian State or Territory. You must be eligible to hold (and must maintain) a practising certificate issued in an Australian jurisdiction
- demonstrated ability to get across complex legislation quickly; including a willingness to explore, collect and harness new information
- demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others, and to distil and communicate legal advice clearly to a range of audiences.
The Following Criterion Is Highly Desirable
- experience in energy laws, administrative law and decision making, statutory interpretation, regulatory litigation, and/or public sector corporate governance issues.
