Supporting Young Tasmanians in Education and Employment
The Tasmanian Government has launched a Youth Jobs and Participation Taskforce to enhance opportunities for young Tasmanians in education, training, and employment.
Minister for Skills and Training, Felix Ellis, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating:
"Young people are Tasmania's future, and we want to make a way for young people to take up opportunities and to build life in our state."
Ellis noted that while young people today have more choices than ever, they also face confusion navigating the transition from school to the workforce. The Taskforce aims to increase participation rates among young Tasmanians, which have historically been lower than their mainland counterparts.
The Taskforce includes three influential young Tasmanians—Ellsie Bird, Aleira Chalker, and Reede Adams-Beckett—who will ensure that the voices of youth are central to the implementation of the Tasmanian Youth Jobs Strategy.
In addition, the Taskforce comprises key partners such as employers, education providers, youth service organizations, and Regional Jobs Hubs, all committed to empowering the next generation.
As part of the initiative, Professor Shelley Mallet from the University of Tasmania will aid the Taskforce in enhancing youth participation in education and work through the Paul Ramsay Foundation Fellowship.
